Project WINGS

Wildlife, Incentives, Non-Game, Game Species

Project WINGS (Wildlife Incentives for Non-game & Game Species) collaborates with utility partners and field representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to assist landowners and leaseholders interested in converting utility right-of-ways into wildlife habitat.

Launched in 1996 as a partnership between Georgia Power and the Two Rivers Resource Conservation and Development Council, the program now includes collaboration with Georgia Transmission Corporation, MEAG (Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia) and Atlanta Gas Light. WINGS has earned several national awards and provided nearly $3.5 million dollars in corporate grants to individuals, creating almost 31,900 acres of new wildlife habitat.

The project provides cash grants up to $2,250, along with wildlife planning assistance from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (See Link Below), to groups and individuals interested in managing these electrical transmission rights-of-way for a three-year period.

For WINGS information and participation guidelines, please contact your local NRCS office or contact the Two Rivers office at tworiversrcd@hotmail.com or 706-885-0101.

RAISED BED POLLINATOR GARDENS

Pollinator Gardens provide essential habitat for bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators. These insects are part of the intricate web that supports the biological diversity in natural ecosystems, and help to sustain our quality of life.

Funding, provided through a grant by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, makes it possible for Two Rivers to install up to 20 raised bed pollinator gardens throughout the service area. The gardens are maintained by local partners who provide the space within their facilities.
